Triceratops
-
The
Mighty
Three-Horned
Dinosaur
Triceratops
was
a
herbivorous
dinosaur
belonging
to
the
family
of
ceratopsid.
It
lived
approximately
68
to
65
million
years
ago
in
North
America
during
the
Late
Cretaceous
Period.
The
name
Triceratops
means
"three-horned
face,"
and
it
was
one
of
the
largest
ceratopsians,
standing
as
tall
as
10
feet
at
the
shoulder
and
measuring
up
to
30
feet
in
length.
One
of
the
unique
features
of
Triceratops
was
its
three
long
horns.
A
single
horn
protruded
from
the
snout,
while
the
other
two
horns
were
above
the
eyes.
The
horns
were
believed
to
have
been
used
for
defense
against
predators,
such
as
Tyrannosaurus
rex.
Triceratops
also
had
a
large
bony
frill
at
the
back
of
its
head
that
extended
over
the
neck.
This
structure
provided
crucial
support
to
its
skull
while
also
serving
as
protection
against
attacks
from
predators.
The
frill
on
this
dinosaur
was
the
most
extensive
among
the
ceratopsians,
measuring
around
8
feet
wide
and
4
feet
long.
As
a
herbivorous
dinosaur,
Triceratops
mainly
fed
on
plants
such
as
ferns,
horsetails,
and
woody
shrubs.
Its
teeth
were
arranged
in
rows,
and
they
were
designed
for
slicing
and
grinding
plant
materials.
Though
it
is
believed
that
Triceratops
was
a
solitary
creature,
many
remains
have
been
found
showing
evidence
of
combat
between
individuals.
This
suggests
that
males
may
have
fought
for
dominance
or
mating
rights.

extinction

dinosaurs,
was
likely

result
of
a
massive
asteroid
impact
that
occurred

66
million
years
ago.
The
asteroid
impact
caused
a
series
of
environmental
changes
that
led
to
the
extinction
of
over
75%
of
all
species
on
Earth.
Today,
Triceratops
remains
one
of
the
most
popular
dinosaurs
and
is
a
well-known
symbol
of
the
prehistoric
world.
Its
unique
appearance
and
fierce
reputation
make
it
a
favorite
among
dinosaur-lovers
everywhere,
and
its
legacy
continues
to
inspire
awe
and
fascination.
